Dear Music Lover,
How’ve you been? It’s been a minute since we last caught up. With April rolling in, things are starting to look up. As the temperature rises, the city begins to come alive with the slow bloom of flowers, painting a fresh picture of renewal. And speaking of new beginnings, we’re thrilled to announce that Wind Music is gearing up for something special. In the first week of April, we’ll be taking Taiwanese artists to the iconic Tallinn Music Week in Estonia, marking another exciting chapter in our 36-year journey.
This year marks the 16th edition of the Tallinn Music Week (TMW), scheduled to take place from April 3rd to April 7th. Featuring 27 showcases from Telliskivi to Kopli – spanning 3 nights, 10 unique venues, and over 170 diverse artists. The music selection ranges from Finno-Ugric heritage to global digi-pop, European jazz, contemporary classical, African club beats, Balkan rock, to East Asian fusion.
For the first time, the festival has curated an Asian stage. The initial idea for this stage can be traced back to the 2023 World Music Festival @Taiwan, organized by Wind Music and the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development. During the 2023 WMFT, Juliana Voloz, owner of the music label JV-Promotion and one of the international delegates, was captivated by the Taiwanese artists.
After experiencing the rich diversity of musical styles from Taiwan, Juliana immediately initiated discussions with Peiti Huang (Wind Music, Taiwan) and Sungchun Lee (Soundpuzzle, Korea). Subsequently, this stage materialized, marking a significant milestone as Wind Music proudly presents Taiwanese music to a global audience.
The Debut Asian Stage “KOREA-TAIWAN MUSIC FLIGHT” at 2024 Tallinn Music Week
This time, two Taiwanese artists will take the stage, featuring the indigenous powerhouse Sauljaljui and the ethereal Hakka vocalist Leaf Yeh. Next week, they will make their festival debut in front of 20,000 festivalgoers and 1,000 industry professionals from around the world. We anticipate that the global audience will be captivated by their unique Asian style showcased through electrifying performances.
Embodying the ethos of “Tomorrow’s Music, Arts, and Ideas,” Tallinn Music Week plays a pivotal role in promoting emerging talent, fostering cultural exchange, and celebrating the universal language of music. The enthusiastic participation of the citizens amplifies its significance, extending its impact beyond the festival itself. This contributes to the enrichment of Estonia’s cultural landscape and its integration into the global music community. This city-sized festival pulsates with energy and creativity, heralding the passionate arrival of the spring season.
